Notice to Telephone Callers to the Council
On February 16, 2021 the Ontario government introduced legislation in the form of Bill 245 to, among other matters, eliminate oversight of public accounting in Ontario by dissolving the Council and transferring its functions to Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario effective May 1, 2021. This legislation is expected to be proclaimed sometime in April 2021.

The Public Accountants Council for the Province of Ontario (the Council) is a corporate body that was continued under the Public Accounting Act 2004 (the Act). Its purpose is to ensure that public accounting in Ontario is practised in accordance with internationally respected public accounting standards that reflect the public interest in the delivery of superior quality public accounting services.
In accordance with the provisions of the Public Accounting Act 2004, reporting for The Public Accountants Council for the Province of Ontario are set below:
One of the objects of the Council is to oversee the regulation of public accounting in the public interest by maintaining public confidence in public accounting through the appropriate prosecution of offences under the Act.
The Public Accountants Council for the Province of Ontario maintains a roll of all Public Accountants licensed to practise Public Accounting in Ontario.
